Microsoft doesn’t care about SPIM

imageMicrosoft Hotmail, MSN and LIVE accounts are littered with requests for sex, porn and adult content; and Microsoft doesn’t care. It seems they make absolutely no efforts in stopping or filtering this kind of solicitation.

I use my Hotmail account because it’s my oldest email account I’ve, it’s the most established. For as many Internet Service Provider’s I’ve had, Hotmail has always been a fall back point, but now it’s a thorn in my side.

The Hotmail spam filter functions are crap; I get Instant Messaging invites from people all the time ‘…look at my SEX cam’ OR ‘… I need a SEX partner’ crap. Not only this, but the people are able to hack and spoof other peoples accounts, people you know. Making it look like someone you know is offering ADULT content or services.

Internet Explorer 8: A Choice, not THE Choice.

image Microsoft established it’s self as the conqueror years ago, but it wasn’t because Internet Explorer was better; it’s because it was free. AND Microsoft was pushing the updates out thru the automatic updates.

Microsoft established themselves in the market as the dominate browser then once they had it they sat back and didn’t do anything. All the security issues and problems were handled on their schedule and millions of users were suffering.

Roll Your Laptop To Be A Backpack

d roll

Forward thinking is what’s going to make it for us. Sticking to the sam ole rut of making technology is just not going to cut it.

Some of the most useful things like the light bulb, were made our of necessity and discontent.

This is a prime example of how technology could be working for us. You’ll notice the flexible roll-out screen and the flexible pull-out key board. The unit itself is an example of how to be functional and to maximize space.

The DIGGBAR Affect: It’s all about the DIGG Traffic…

image If you don’t know what DIGG is, your probably living under a rock or  some where that doesn’t have light. DIGG is one of the biggest social news websites on the Internet; if not the biggest.

You can imagine the amount of traffic that this webiste gets on a regular basis, but that’s not enough. DIGG has released the DIGGBAR.

Initially when you go to the website you can look at the top stories on the right or the ones on the left, gaining ground and coming up.

Recently, they started using this DIGGBAR. The DIGGBAR appears when you click on one of the links from the website. It creates a specialized  URL just for that page. The original URL is obscured and placed in the DIGGBAR.

Dragon NaturallySpeaking ‘Essentials’ Customers: No Updates for you!

image I’m very disappointed in Nuance.

I saw on the Dragon NaturallySpeaking Facebook {April 8th 2009} that Nuance has decided not to support or honor their earlier statements to support the ‘Essentials’ customers.

For months, Dragon NaturallySpeaking customers have been promised updates. Nuance is showing that they are not people of their word.

They have practiced deception and discrimination with their ‘Essentials’ customers. They knew- they knew they were not going to support those customers and said nothing; announced nothing.

They wait until there’s a release/update and then unload on those customers the bad news.

Spybot Search & Destroy competitors advising users to Uninstall it

SS&D is one of my favorite applications. Software providers in this field are being just outright stupid.

There’s nothing wrong with being competitive, but asking a customer to uninstall a program so it can run another is stupid.

McAfee, TrendMicro and Kaspersky have no right to tell a user to uninstall another software package. They do have the right to tell the user there are incompatibilities with certain packages and they may incur errors.

SS&D is an application I run on a regular basis. It’s free it’s dependable, it performs as advertised and updated regularly.

If given the choice between using a commercial product, paying a subscription fee for protecting my machine; I’ll choose the free version first and tell the other dolts to sod off.

I’ve used plenty of software that fight against malware, but everyone -EVERYONE- has shortcomings and in my opinion is no better than the other. These programs either use so many resources your computer is unusable or they’re so crappy they don’t catch anything and your back to square one.

Something is better than nothing… you might as well save some money  while you fight the powers of good and evil…

So SS&D competitors, stop mucking with users and spreading FUD.

Microsoft moves from Windows 7 beta to RC

Microsoft is offering several options for those who want to move from the beta version of Windows 7 to the release candidate when it comes out sometime in the following weeks. Unfortunately, none of them are as easy as a direct upgrade path from the beta build to the RC but rather require a fair amount of work. The recommended approach, according to them, is to go back to Windows Vista and upgrade from that.

The reason offered by the software giant is that they need to get more feedback on the experience that the typical user will have in going from Vista to Windows 7. Those who still want to upgrade directly from the beta will be able to do so, but only using a makeshift workaround of sorts that consists of seven steps to avoid version checking. The steps are listed in Microsoft’s blog here. However, the company cautions that going this route might result in "some oddities" after the upgrade so you should try this at your own risk.

Alternatively, users can perform a clean install onto a separate partition and use the Windows Easy Transfer feature to move accounts, files and settings – which is probably the best way to go anyway.
