LEHSYS Download Watch – 7/17/2010

These are some items that I notice, like to keep an eye on and also to notate any new programs/software that could be useful.

I offer this as some links you should be curious about and if they can help you.

I’m always focused on the programs that are helpful and free [or low cost]. This week I’ve from system tweaks,  screenshot takers, PIM’s to collage makers… All should be very helpful on some level.

Check out these links…

Review: ZScreen

imageLadies and gentlemen I’ve found a new toy- a new best friend to a person who takes a crap load of screenshots and shares information with others.

This makes it to the top of my must have list easy.

I’ve been a long time user of Snag-it; it has a load of features included with it, but I share information with others all the times and as your visiting forums or making discussion, and you need to share a screenshot or two, it’s very important to make it easy to share.

Some forums don’t offer an image upload option, which makes helping and sharing that much harder, but with ZScreen you’ve got a solid answer to that problem.

Windows 7 Voice Recognition – Still Lacks Decent GUI

syk5xyjxIn January 2009, I wrote a review of what was going on with Windows 7 and their voice recognition.

At the time, Windows 7 was still in beta and was going to be released for some time [October 2009] actually. I was testing the functions and the recognition of the voice recognition in Windows 7 and I was leaving a lot of doors open for Microsoft to make some improvements; that’s where I messed up…

I was incorrect to think Microsoft was going to make any changes to their voice recognition in just a few months, because in 8 months, from January to October- nothing happened.

Bing: The Reason why people can’t find anything in the Windows Live Writer forums

1vlxyhpkI like to try to spend some of my time visiting the Microsoft forums for Windows Live Writer to help other users get information to help them do better for figure something out; it’s just something I like to do. But simply doing a search on the Windows Live Writer forum is not going to help you that much.

But also, I report each month on how my site is doing and who makes the most crawls on my site and who refers to me the most.

The common issue here is BING.

Microsoft Outlook Steals Performance

outlook stealsI’m not going to argue the point that Microsoft Outlook is a very popular email client, and it’s the most used, and desired, function of Microsoft Office, but I think at what cost are we using it?

Microsoft Office/Outlook 2007 is not my email client of choice, but I’ve to use it at work. Every job/office I know of uses Microsoft Outlook for their email clients and typically the machines Microsoft Outlook was loaded on was not a supreme machine.

So how’s this really productive? It’s not.

Xobni for Thunderbird [early with SOCIALMAIL]

xobni for ThunderbirdXobni has come on the scene like gang busters providing what seems a basic function that been should’ve been there and has been over looked for so long. It’s the perfect email client data miner.

Xobni has exclusively developed for Outlook. Microsoft must really be loving that the Xobni crew is putting so much effort in to Microsoft Outlook, but at the same time they have shunned the open source community.

And as I’ve always said, necessity spawns invention.

Thunderbird now has Xobni with SOCIALMAIL.

So Your Using Internet Explorer… Not So Smart.

death to Internet Explorer

I wonder when I see the stats on the usage of the most popular browser on the planet and shockingly it keeps coming back Internet Explorer; it’s simply staggering.

I’ve inquired with many sites about their trends. Some websites offer their stats right out there on the cuff; you can see everything- all kinds of stats on websites and I rarely see Internet Explorer as a dominate browser.

This just sparks curiosity… about the wisdom of those users…

Download Follow-up: AUTOTEXT

autotext who

Almost a year ago, I posted an article about an autotext program that was free and it was really good, in the aspect that it was from the same people that created PhraseExpress [Gunnar Bartels] group.

It was an excellent option for people that just wanted a quick, down and dirty option for doing autotext’ing in just about any application in Windows; it was portable, simple and fast.

When I went back to checkup, but something changed…
