Review/Evaluation: Windows Live Writer Beta Wave 4

Windows Live Writer beta Wave 4 screenshot Microsoft released/push out a beta today of Windows Essentials, which includes Windows Live Writer [beta].

Windows Live Writer from Microsoft is considered to be one of the better/premium blogging editors out there, for offline blogging. Windows Live Writer was release in December of 2008. The last official release of Windows Live Writer was in January of 2009.

As an initial release of Windows Live Writer, and as an offline blog editor- it was a very good start, but it was also a residual effort by a group of programmers that were bought by Microsoft and then re-branded as Windows Live Writer; and I also think that helped them a lot.

My goal here is to see what’s new in Windows Live Writer and to point out things that should’ve been addressed or fixed by this time. And here we’re 18+ months later, the second release of Windows Live Writer.

Here’s what we’ve got…

eMclient v2: An Instant Message Enigma

eMclient Instant Message how toIt’s true the guys over an eMclient are making some serious progress. In my email exchanges they have indicated they’re ‘…seriously busy’ and kudos for all the efforts and their accomplishments.

I’m a big fan of eMclient; I really want to see it succeed and flourish, but one thing about it has in common with other free and open source projects, the programmers usually can’t produce documentation was well as they can write the code.

And you know these guys are using eMclient right now, they’re coding it and they know every inch of how it works, but releasing it in to the wild with average users…

You might as well have released a $50 special jigsaw puzzle, of rock garden, to a 3yr old…

If it’s not one, it’s the other… ISP’s Stifling Innovation

ISP sux  It’s so hard to start with this post. I really don’t know where to go with this and yet it so bluntly apparent what the ISP’s are doing. And when I see these news articles and events it just starts crushing my dreams of a Star Trek world.

When I talk to friends and co-workers about this, they agree and it’s like a slow crashing plane. ISP’s are slowly tearing the fabric of the Internet apart with this is extra, that is extra and that’s not broadband and this is acceptable use. It makes me want to scream.

Look the genie is out of the bottle, you can’t put it back. The Internet is out there, it’s living breathing and growing everyday; AND it’s evolving faster than anyone could have possibly thought of and the old days of corporate control is out the window.

You might as well try to turn off the radio and say there’s never been music before, but now we’re going to define music for you.

Review: eMclient v2.0

image eMclient has presented itself as the alternative to Microsoft Outlook and while it has many competitive features, apparently it’s not ready enough to break the finish line ribbon.

Nothing would make me happier than to be able to post an absolutely outrageous and fantastic review about eMclient, but the latest release of this application, after months of waiting, was a little bit of a disappointment to me.

About a week ago the latest revision of eMclient was released, version 2. I had a previous version of eMclient and when I downloaded the next version [v2] I had some difficulties with the upgrade process. I had e-mailed the authors and I didn’t get an immediate response, but I was able to contact them through Twitter. through Twitter I got a quick response from one of the support staff and they gave me the information that needed to be able to clear out the previous installation completely and then start all over. This wasn’t a big deal because I wasn’t using eMclient as my primary e-mail program.

Chrome versus Firefox – it’s the modern-day Balboa

image Mozilla Firefox 3.5 has been released and I have to admit that I’m really enjoying the competition between the two brothers. Google has really set the roof on fire with this competition between Firefox and Chrome.

The updates from Mozilla are coming out faster, chrome is already on version 3 of their flagship browser. The battle between Mozilla and Google over who has the best browser is really kicking in some pure competitive spirit that we haven’t seen in a long time.

Ever since chrome has come out onto the market it has really put a fire under the competition. Internet Explorer is still underdeveloped and so outclassed in comparison to the open-source efforts presented by Mozilla and Google; it’s extremely funny.
