The self-sustaining vehicle – why can’t there be?

green carI guess I’m a ‘dummy’… I guess I just don’t get the problem.

The argument is not so much can a car be self-sufficient, but can you really get away from a GAS fuel; I want to say yes- [to coin a phrase] yes we can.

These are some things, technologies and some people that need to sit down and talk and then create something that is absolutely amazing-  a self sufficient car. A car that requires no fuel; it just works.

Download Worthy: AUTOTEXT

The Gunnar Bartels Team already has a good product with PhraseExpress, but I recently noticed an entrance on the freeware market for providing autotext corrections. As everyone knows, I love freeware and if it doesn’t take money from my pocket, I perk up.

The purpose of AUTOTEXT is to cure you from having to type repetitive phrases or words and even do word corrections, if you commonly misspell a word.

Review: PhraseExpress 6

The guys at PhraseExpress seem to keep upping the ante with each new release.

For those who don’t know the application, it reduces the amount of repetitive typing/entry. The program can enter keystrokes, paste images, auto-correct words or insert paragraphs of information with just a few clicks or by setting up an autotext [short name]. This is a program that’s very simple and just about everyone can use in daily life. Read more…

Thumbs Down: Windows Vista Speech Recognition

During a recent voice recognition hiatus I went in search of alternatives to Dragon Naturally Speaking. The problem was that DNS 10 wasn’t compatible with Vista 64, so knowing that Vista had Speech recognition built in, I decided to give it a try; what could it hurt right?

Setting up the speech recognition in Vista wasn’t hard, but the actual usage was horrible [in comparison to DNS]. You enter the control panel, enable voice recognition and do some simple voice training [5-10 minutes]; something you don’t have to do with DNS 9.

I guess it’s a silly thing, but Nuance has had years to perfect their SR technology and the user interface. I think the simplest way for me to say it is ‘the meat and potatoes’ of getting stuff done. Read more…

Productive Software: My Top 10 Picks

In the business world of a everyday sucky tasks and ta-do’s, it’s really hard to keep track of everything, and its even worse even you don’t have the right tools. If you’ve ever tried to open a can of chili with a dull spoon; these are the tools of the cubical-land office I’m talking about.

The depressing and mundane cubical landscape says you can’t have anything of your own and if you have to click twenty times to do something simple; if there’s not other way you have to click 20 times because all the other 17 clicks are not used or don’t mean anything and the application your using is designed for so many other things you don’t use it for.

Some businesses or environments have policies about installing software on your work PC, some prohibit the connection of USB devices, but others recognize that USB devices are required and that software that is freeware is allowed. So, the only recourse to these bastard-like applications is to work around/with them. Tame and bind them to your will with these useful tools.

Corporate Emails: What is offensive?

In the corporate world emails are common. They’re more common than the phone or voice mails. If someone can’t get you by voice they email you. You get your new policies, documentation and common communications. Honestly, it’s a awesome way to communicate for pretty much everything, but it can also be a demons wrath on you if you catch a person that’s thin skinned or reads things defensively.

Emails can be presented in a condescending manner [oh yeah they can] and others can be down right offensive, but what about the honest few who are just trying to get the information from point A to point B? Those rare few can be blasted by a select few who may be having a bad day, have a back log of things to do or feel you are just bashing them…People get in serious trouble and even fired over comments in emails.

Here’s the thing, when you write emails you write it as you would most likely say it and in person it would be a perfectly simple conversation, but when you send a email your information then has to be interpreted by the other person and that’s where the problems start. Is it a person having a good day or a bad day? Is there person a upbeat person or a person looking for a fight? Read more…

Review: PhraseExpress v5

In my current position, I deal with a lot of repetitious situations and over the years I found myself writing the same sentences over and over and over again. I found myself thinking that someone must have had the same idea; and they did. So I did some searches and I landed on a program/application called PhraseExpress.

PhraseExpress allows you to capture/store snippets of information that are phrases that you’ll repeat all the time. It stores text as well as pictures, and mixed text with images. So if you process new orders, handle customer service or do tech support. You can save yourself a ton of time and go with something like this…

If you have ever used a word processor your probably familiar with AUTOTEXT. This neat little feature allows you to type a few letters and then have a paragraph of information appear. If you like this, but want to expand it to every application, then this program is going be very useful to you.

Now PhraseExpress is free for personal use, but the author of this program kinda keeps track of what your doing via the program, so if the program thinks you might be using the program for other than personal use it’ll remind you. Now, on the website it says it’s free, but no one likes being accused of being a thief when their not; that’s why I don’t like his NAG screens. Free is Free, and if you feel otherwise, you should simply limit the program to 20 different items. If the customer likes it that much, they will pay the $30.

As useful as this program is, the one thing I look for is a self sustained program, a program that’s portable; placed on a jumpdrive and take it anywhere. This program doesn’t have this, but the author says it’ll be coming soon. I think this is a must for a program like this.

The program is nicely rounded with a auto-learn feature, clipboard manager and the ability to do some macro functions… and more.

Most of the time I post stuff that’s freeware, but this is note worthy.

Work smarter; not harder…

NapoleonAG
