Android/Google Voice Recognition

I’m an owner of an Android phone, and over the last couple weeks I’ve had the firmware for Android for version 2.2; I downloaded it early and applied it to my phone before the official release was sent out.

I reported on some things that noticed with the upgrade, everything does far has been okay, with the exclusion of several applications that just haven’t been updated by the developers.

But what I want to mention right now, is that I believe that with the latest update, and I’m not sure how, but I believe that the voice recognition with the latest release of Google Android is doing very well.

Nuance Contemplating Dragon NaturallySpeaking Application For Android

imageBack in December Nuance gave away, in a surprise move, Dragon NaturallySpeaking free to the iPhone users. I don’t have an iPhone, because I think Apple is walking them selves right out of the smartphone market. But I was automatically eager to have the Dragon NaturallySpeaking application for the Android.

In my early conversations [January 2010] with Nuance, they indicated that while Dragon NaturallySpeaking was not out for the Android yet… ‘’things move fast’ and to stay tuned.

Well, I’ve been trying to keep my ear to the stone, but the simple fact is Nuance has released a Dragon NaturallySpeaking/voice recognition for Android, but it’s integrated with the genius button the new T-Mobile Slide phones [Android].

PaperPort Viewer 7 Doesn’t Work With Vista or Windows 7

1eklywpmThis started off as an attempt to establish an export/convert tool for PaperPort MAX files and change them to something more standard like a PDF file. I already had PDFCreator installed, so I just needed a way to print; it’s all a failure and here’s why.

While it may not be important to some folks, but to others it’s important. The free utility from Nuance for PaperPort MAX files is now seriously crippled if you’re a Vista, or a Windows 7 user.

For a long time, Nuance has offered a free utility to view the MAX files that the PaperPort program creates. It’s a proprietary file format that only Nuance uses, and it’s confused a majority of the time with MAX file from 3DMAX Studio. Why anyone would send another person a MAX file is beyond me.

So for Nuance, I don’t know who’s in charge of QA over there, but I can tell you this missed this little gem by a few years.

Android: Uber Keyboard – formerly TalktoMe Keyboard

tobkszplBetween Dragon NaturallySpeaking and Google, these are the best services right now for voice recognition. Both services utilize cloud computing with the smartphones. Both capture the information, the information is sent to a processing center, recognition is ran on information that’s presented and then sent back to the operator’s smartphone.

TalktoMe Keyboard [TTM Keyboard] is, and was, my favorite application for my Motorola Droid. It can capture 3 to 10 seconds of voice recognition data to be sent off for remote processing; pasting that information into any application inside the Motorola Droid. This is a huge improvement over the capabilities of Dragon NaturallySpeaking and the iPhone.

TalkToMe keyboard has changed their name to Uber Keyboard, and now they’re stressing the importance of speaking slowly and clearly in the aspects of voice recognition.

Review: Nuance’s FREE PDF Reader

r3latl4vFrom my standpoint, Nuance would be the last company I would see that would be offering a free product to the public, even more so a FREE PDF reader, but they have; they’ve come out with their own PDF viewer for FREE.

The installation file is 18mb. It’s a MSI file, just double-click the file to run it. The PDF reader from Adobe is much larger than this; Adobe Reader is complete BLOAT-ware.

Nuance has shown up to put Adobe in it’s place and beat Adobe at their own game. It’s nice to know someone else is doing it besides Steve Jobs.

Android: TALKTOME Keyboard

Android voice recognitionI’m a big proponent of using voice commands and voice recognition with PC and electronic devices [ask anyone]. The release of Dragon NaturallySpeaking for the iPhone was a premier event. iPhone didn’t have voice recognition before; while Android did- although very poor.

As an user of DROID, I was looking for alternatives and best choice for voice recognition on the DROID; basically all of them go through the Google voice recognition engine, but it’s about the GUI they put with it..

I found TALKTOME Keyboard…

AnDROID gets Dragon NaturallySpeaking?

DROID Dragon NaturallySpeaking

ANDROID has voice recognition from Google built right in to the Operating System for DROID, but the recognition of Dragon NaturallySpeaking is far greater than Google at this point.

So one of the very first questions that hit my mind was after the iPhone was provided Dragon NaturallySpeaking, and I understood how it works…

How long is it going to before DROID is going to get Dragon NaturallySpeaking?

Voice Recognition: Dragon NaturallySpeaking vs AnDROID

DROID Dragon NaturallySpeaking[6]I recently purchased a Motorola DROID ‘phone’ and I’ve been trying to get some updates from Nuance for some time now, on its initial offering of Dragon NaturallySpeaking, for the iPhone; not much yet.

Maybe the fact I don’t have an iPhone is a hindrance. I asked to be included with the beta testing team, but never got the invite.

But is all this voice recognition a lost effort on the iPhone?
