Pirating Windows 7; nothing changes.

Windows 7 pirateIt’s no surprise that the pirating of Windows 7 is just so obsessive right now. Microsoft Vista was such a disastrous release. Microsoft release Vista thinking it would be the answer to XP and it was just the opposite.

I wouldn’t really buy a Windows 7 Key from EBay and I wouldn’t buy a copy Windows 7 before it’s release date. And Reuters is already reporting China has Windows 7 on the shelves for close to $3.

The problem that’s pointed out in that article is the same as the issue that’s here. Windows 7 is too damn expensive and if people can’t buy it; they are going to pirate it. Where’s there’s a need, there’s a supplier and where there’s a supplier… there are crooks and opportunists.

Prediction: Windows 7 Keygen Flood– wait for it…

image One of the most amusing things I’ve seen with the ‘leaked’ versions of Windows 7 is the creation of the keygen, serial and hacks to activate Windows 7, but what’s better is the fact that it’s almost like the major players on this are waiting for the day of October 22nd.

It’s almost like they’re waiting for October 22nd and then they’re going to unleash this wave of keygen’s and serials to activate Windows 7.

But really, who can blame them or blame the people that want the keygen’s. It’s like a Robin Hood story; take from the rich and give to the poor, but in this case the poor guinea pigs who bough Vista and wound up with a bunch of stuff that didn’t work and a constant ‘are you sure’ parade of admin prompts.

While I’m impressed with the latest version of Windows, I feel that the Microsoft Vista customers have really been put out in the wind on this one.

LEHSYS Report – 08/31/2009

August was really good for LEHSYS.

The RSS subscriptions for LEHSYS were up 52% from the previous month and page views were up about 25%. And as always, I want to thank all the new visitors dropping by.

My discussion forums are not as active as I’d like, but if someone sees something, I’m sure they’ll speak up. There’s lots of times I read articles and then just say nothing.

So, this is my report card…

Producers need money: Windows 7 takes the stage early

imageWith Microsoft you can’t figure out from day to day what they’re doing, but looks like they have decided to ramp up the release date of Windows 7.

It’s no great secret they are racing the clock, literally watching the seconds crash away as they loose money on Microsoft Vista. With the layoffs at Microsoft, I’d say those are the same stupid SOB’s who programmed Vista to begin with.

At Microsoft TechEd North America 2009, Microsoft today announced that Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 will both be available to customers in time for the holiday shopping season. Previously, Microsoft’s official stance was that Windows 7 would be available no later than three years after the general availability of Windows Vista, meaning January 30, 2010. Based on the steady development of the OS though, many have predicted that Windows 7 would arrive earlier. Windows Server 2008 R2 was expected to arrive sometime after Windows 7, but now Microsoft has noted that the server OS will actually arrive in the same timeframe as its client counterpart. The Release Candidate builds for both operating systems went public last week.

The market predictions for Windows 7 has been greatly received and while the IT guru’s of the world have no great interest in upgrading to Windows 7 anytime soon, surely the growing pains Vista has trampled and stumbled through will make it easier for the next Operating System to gain some running room.

Keep your eyes peeled and watch for the rush to the computer stores for uber-geeks to get their hands on v7. We can expect so many horror stories and updates your head will spin.

It should be a early geek Christmas for some…

Dragon NaturallySpeaking Essentials – the Orphan

image.pngDragon NaturallySpeaking to Nuance is a bastard child to a really great family.

Referencing a post I made a while back, it referred to the Dragon NaturallySpeaking Essentials suite from Nuance. The Essentials suite is a custom package that’s only sold at target; ONLY at Target for $40.

See Nuance doesn’t sell Essentials anywhere else, but Target. The Essentials is not listed on the Nuance website and is not offered to the public as a comparison product. Nuance writes the program, distributes it to Target and supports it, but yet it’s hidden from view. You can’t buy Essentials from Nuance. They don’t want you to.

Public Poll: Vista has the Lowest Rating

image

It’s no wonder why Microsoft is preparing so fast to get Windows 7 released; it’s got the lowest Operating System rating of any other competitor.

Microsoft made the mistake to push Vista out the door too soon has given them such a black eye and while Microsoft reports sales of Vista are up, many customers are still downgrading to XP PRO; that’s not being reported.

XP Pro is standard now. Drivers and software are very compatible with it. People like it; it’s more accepted.

Microsoft didn’t do anything with the XP Operating System for years, just providing service patches and then suddenly they dropped a whole NEW Operating System on the market and then sunset a common one while the public was force to suffer through a half baked Operating System.

The way to force penetration to the market is to include the new Operating System on all the new PC’s and refuse to sell the old Operating System, but a loophole allows customers to downgrade. Additionally, running TV ads on Mojave [just as bad a SHAM-WOW commercials].

Microsoft, in an apparent mistake, posted and recanted an article about possible Windows 7 release candidate download in May 2009.

The reception of Windows 7 has been nice for Microsoft, but you’ve to remember that Vista has been out for a few years and has been allowed to saturate the market and software providers have had time to adjust their products, update drivers and acclimate themselves to the NEW stuff. The release of Windows 7 is like going from Windows ME to XP; ME was a disaster and XP was a refinement of ME. Going from Vista to Windows 7 should be a easier transition.

When new versions of Windows are released in the future, I think Microsoft is going to take this in a different direction. Hopefully.

Enjoy.

How to: Install Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 on Windows 7 64-bit

Nuance has officially announced that they will now support Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 on on a 64-bit operating system, but I have successfully installed Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 on Windows this to 64-bit and Windows 7 64-bit.

Installation process for this versus Windows 7 for Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 is virtually identical.

There’s nothing dangerous about this process.

The installation files from Dragon NaturallySpeaking are copied to the local hard drive, the installation MSI file is modified to root remove the launch conditions that prohibit installation onto a 64-bit operating system.

The rest of the installation is pretty much stock from Nuance.
