Windows Live Writer: Creating a Custom Template

i2asg54fWindows Live Writer is due an update, but the Windows Live Writer team hasn’t announced any time frames as to when we might see the new version.

And while Windows Live Writer 2009 is a great program for blogging, and especially the use of using themes as you’re composing the post, some times the program doesn’t do as you expected and the themes are all messed up, or the theme your using with Windows Live Writer is not compatible.

So to help others adjust on the fly, here’s some information on how to deal with it.

AutoHotKey: Copy and Paste to Microsoft Excel

yar0zfuwI was working on some stuff the other day; it was completely boring and monotonous, but I had to grab information from a webpage […] 3 pieces of it and then paste it in to a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.

The constant switching back and forth was insane.

I wasn’t able to do all this automatically [hands off], but I made it a lot easier.

I wrote an AutoHotKey script to work for me…

Compliment Spam: From the NICE Spammers

Compliment SpamBloggers all want to have the same thing, they want to be able to put their information out their and be heard in some way, shape or fashion. And they all want to or love to hear feedback from the readers on what they think about the authors post.

While there are plenty of people out there that visit your site for one reason there are thousands that visit your site for a completely different purpose.

It’s comment defecation… They want to SPAM you with ‘NICE’ comments.

Here’s how it works…

Can Mozilla’s Thunderbird bring it together in a Raindrop?

Thunderbird Raindrop[7]I read this article today about how Mozilla Thunderbird is coming together and they’re working on the ‘Universal Inbox’; this is SO MUCH what everyone needs.

And I agree with a lot of what it has to say.

I was discussing this with a friend of mine the other day about this very same problem and he posted a link to RainDrop and it’s a very good point.

People are communicating in all kinds of portals, Instant Message, email, forums, Twitter, Facebook…. the list goes on.

There has to be a way to make sense of it all- maybe Raindrop and be that answer.

Personal Information Manager: MyNotesKeeper

MyNotesKeeper 10292009As your going about your daily life, there’s lots of thing you wish you had to keep track of it all and this was my problem about 4 years ago and then I found MyNotesKeeper. I posted an article about it last year, but it’s getting better, the author has been [within the last few months] actively pushing updates and new features.

One of the things I really like about MyNotesKeeper is the responses from the author; you don’t get it much with other developers, but with MyNotesKeeper he’s been listening to his users and adding the small thing they’re requesting. It really puts a polish on a great program.

Where’s the ‘Presto’ Version of the Windows Operating System

QUESTION TO THE PUBLIC

image Presto is a release that allows the PC or the laptop to boot almost instantly [just a couple seconds] and I’m wondering where’s the Presto version of Windows Vista/7?

I mean why can’t Microsoft offer a quick boot version of their Operating System just for baseline operations? If you really wanted to boot in to the full Operating System that should still be an option…

For instance, once the Operating System is loaded and all the drivers are working and everything is in place; why can’t you’ve the option to power on your PC or laptop in to a stripped down version of Windows. I mean if all I wanto to do is browse the web or just get web access, why doesn’t Microsoft just offer a quick boot option for this?

It seems like a simple idea and I think it would meet a lot of peoples basic needs.

What do you think?

Making money as a Blogger

image Being a non-blogger I’m sure it’s easy to step back and say I can do that, ‘I can be a blogger’; I can make money doing that, but honestly can you?

I started my website as a service to my public; my family, friends, strangers that needed some help […here to go my site] and it was also to keep my customers informed about new technology on things that are happening in tech. It’s evolving so fast and there’s always something new for me to talk about with my co-worker, associates and random geeks [like me].

Websites, Forums and Rules…and Zero Tolerance

image A few weeks ago I had signed up for an account at Ars Technica because some of the articles that they post are really interesting and in order to comment on some of the stories you have to sign up for an account on the website; this is actually pretty standard with a lot of websites.

What’s interesting about this article is that within three days of signing up for my account, I was banned from this website for spamming. I’ve been surfing the Internet since early 93’ 94’, and even before that when there was Prodigy and CompuServe [back when the best thing they had was an online encyclopedia and newsgroups], and I’ve never been banned from anything [except Google AdSense].
