eMclient v2: An Instant Message Enigma

eMclient Instant Message how toIt’s true the guys over an eMclient are making some serious progress. In my email exchanges they have indicated they’re ‘…seriously busy’ and kudos for all the efforts and their accomplishments.

I’m a big fan of eMclient; I really want to see it succeed and flourish, but one thing about it has in common with other free and open source projects, the programmers usually can’t produce documentation was well as they can write the code.

And you know these guys are using eMclient right now, they’re coding it and they know every inch of how it works, but releasing it in to the wild with average users…

You might as well have released a $50 special jigsaw puzzle, of rock garden, to a 3yr old…

Windows Live Writer 2009 is Bad for Blog Site Bandwidth

Copy of image_thumb34If your using Windows Live Writer, and you copy and paste images [for like taking screenshots], you may be unaware that Windows Live Writer is doing you a disservice by not using an optimized image. Or by not offering a choice when posting images.

When images are pasted in to Windows Live Writer the program inserts them as a PNG file. PNG’s are not as compressed as JPG and therefore resulting in larger images, more storage requirements and more bandwidth; resulting in a slower website.

Take a look at my examples…

Download: Windows Live Writer – For offline bloggers.

image When you’re in the business of issuing a blog post one of the nicest things you can have is a tool that will facilitate and make possible the task of entering your information easily, and eloquently, being able to format the information without having to go to a lot of gyrations to present it to the public.

While I don’t like admitting it, Microsoft has produced a very nice blog posting program called Windows Live Writer. It’s a free blogging tool provided by Microsoft and again one of the most surprising things that offered by the program is its extensibility, offering extensions to increase the functionality of the program.

Windows Live Writer can be downloaded from this location, but in typical Microsoft form they make you download an installer.

TWC: Overages- Not Charged Until You Sign Up to be Monitored…

image Time Warner Cable is agreeably the worst Internet provider right now. They’re practicing old dial-up and metering services for Internet service. In the locations where TWC is ‘beta testing’ this new method of billing customer’s they have this online metering service that informs the customer how much surfing they have left before they start using their service.

By the way, you’ve to use your bandwidth to check your bandwidth, to see if you’re over your bandwidth limit. It’s like banks charging a NSF fee when they know you don’t have any money.

Now when your installed the tech says you’ll get a automated email to sign up; Don’t. Matter of fact, don’t even use their email.

Apparently, if you don’t sign up for the monitoring service, the boys at Time Warner Cable won’t know to bill you.

Microsoft doesn’t care about SPIM

imageMicrosoft Hotmail, MSN and LIVE accounts are littered with requests for sex, porn and adult content; and Microsoft doesn’t care. It seems they make absolutely no efforts in stopping or filtering this kind of solicitation.

I use my Hotmail account because it’s my oldest email account I’ve, it’s the most established. For as many Internet Service Provider’s I’ve had, Hotmail has always been a fall back point, but now it’s a thorn in my side.

The Hotmail spam filter functions are crap; I get Instant Messaging invites from people all the time ‘…look at my SEX cam’ OR ‘… I need a SEX partner’ crap. Not only this, but the people are able to hack and spoof other peoples accounts, people you know. Making it look like someone you know is offering ADULT content or services.

CREATIVE: An Insult to Customer Service

image Once in a while you run across exceptional service and support from various software or hardware providers and for a moment your faith in corporate tech support is exonerated, but this is not one of those tails. This is a story of complete and utter failure; an example of the inability to read, absence of an a positive IQ and a barrage of unrelated canned responses will get you.

Allow me to set the stage, I purchased a $90 webcam from CREATIVE in Nov 2008. It was a CREATIVE LIVE CAM PRO Aptia. It’s a high resolution webcam, autofocus, face tracking, animation add-ons and more; supposedly. The reason I purchased the webcam was because I have a 64-bit system I had just purchased and all the normal webcams weren’t working; I had already tried 3 prior and I wanted a good one. And life is full of bad choices aren’t they..

If you’re brave enough to keep reading, this is really funny. This is a support thread of case KMM18331722I15977L0KM from the support staff at CREATIVE.

So thank you for reading and I’m sorry I had to post this as a news article…

Nuance’s Response to 64-bit Debacle: Sorry Dude, My Bad…

Nuance Dragon Naturally SpeakingNuance has been taking a trip on the ‘Bad PR Train’ here lately in regard to the debacle with Dragon Naturally Speaking and it’s lack of support for 64-bit systems. And rightfully so. And to the person that told Nuance that 64-bit system aren’t important… how ’bout now smart guy?

While voice recognition systems are not popular with everyone, they will be a common thing in a matter of time. Nuance is not focused strictly on PC’s and computers, they deal with phone systems, voice response, mobile devices and they’re going to keep pushing in any area that can benefit from voice recognition technology, but loosing focus is what got them in this pickle. Hybrid Powered Savings

While it’s nice to have gas prices low right now, they’re going to go back up. And while everyone with gas guzzlers are taking a $40 a week raise [from not having to pay for gas], those hurtful days are going to come back and when they do they are going to probably be worse than it was previously.

The oil barons are not making the money they want to and Dubai needs a new mountain so they can snow ski.
