Ubuntu 10.04: Installing Adobe Flash Refined

qt5qnramThe previous version of Ubuntu was plagued by the issue of not being compatible with Adobe Flash right out of the box. Let me rephrase that, it had plenty of issues where people couldn’t install Adobe Flash and use it on Ubuntu.

And I didn’t see it as a flaw of Ubuntu solely, but it was a collection of Ubuntu and Firefox. Ubuntu said to install Adobe Flash this way, and Firefox was saying install Adobe Flash this way. The process just wasn’t cleaned up and it made a bunch of people just irritated for not having something so ubiquitous working right out of the box.

But what the Ubuntu team did with v10.04 was perfect…

Ubuntu 10.04 Display Issues On VirtualBox

s3mihon4The latest release of Ubuntu is out, and it’s fantastic! This is no joke; it’s an impressive release to be sure.

Ubuntu developers have been climbing and improving with each release, and the latest release is the most impressed I’ve been so far. It’s got the fastest boot time I’ve ever seen, even from a sleep mode.

For me, I do all my testing on VirtualBox, and they do a great job, but with Ubuntu they’re still having an issues with the display detection, and I don’t know if it’s on purpose or not, but the solution is rather simple.

Adobe Flash Player Continues to Ignore 64-bit users

Adobe don't give a

It was almost a year ago that I was reporting on the 64-bit browser for Mozilla Thunderbird and the absence of a 64-bit flash player from Adobe. Even in October, there were still no updates from Adobe.

It’s been almost a year and there’s been no new, no progress and no updates from Adobe as to when or if users will see a 64-bit version of flash.

Shouldn’t there be more outrage over this?

Ubuntu 9.10 – Print to PDF

no PDF UbuntuAs I work more with Ubuntu, I notice there’s a few quirks with it, and I was recently struck with a rather simple problem that turned in to a bigger problem. And what was more troubling was there was no REAL solution to find; it was staggering.

The Windows public seems to have a grip on the issue fairly well and there are tons of tool for it, but Ubuntu, not so much.

Try printing to PDF… or create a PDF.

GIMP is Being Removed from Ubuntu – Effective v10.04

F-spot screenshotGIMP is a powerful image editing package for Ubuntu/Linux, but the problem is that GIMP is also an image edit package that’s really meant for a higher edge user. Ubuntu is a distribution that likes to say that it’s easy to use. And in a group of simple programs, GIMP stands out like a sore thumb.

So effective the next version of Ubuntu, GIMP is not going to be included. It’s going to be replaced with a smaller, lighter, easy to use and user friendly picture organizer.

Organizing Music on Ubuntu – Amarok

Amarok[5]When I loaded Ubuntu a month ago, it was mostly painless. The thing you need to understand, it’s not Windows and while Windows has many applications to do what’s considered a common place function, like playing music, doing things in Ubuntu are a bit different.

But once I was able to get Ubuntu where I wanted it, I need a music player…

Enter Amarok…

Questioning SmartPhones: They just need to work.

smartphones just workThere’s this jockeying contest right now for who can be the best Smartphone out there and I don’t really care; I don’t. They’re advertising these Smartphones like they’re the best thing since sliced bread, but it’s not swaying me to change or do any thing special right now.

It’s not the feature set of the phone, what it can do or so much the coverage it can offer- as a customer, it’s the transference of the data/information.

And from that your asking, what am I talking about?

Ubuntu 9.10 – Playing MP3 Music

Ubuntu mp3I’m a new user to Ubuntu, but I really want to try something new, different, from Windows and I’ve been downloading the various versions as they’ve been released to see the progression of the Operating System.

The progression of Ubuntu has been really good over the past few years and when DELL said they were going to start passing out Ubuntu with your PC’s and laptops, I thought that was great.

The thing is Ubuntu doesn’t seem to get any respect from software and hardware makers.
