Ubuntu 9.10 – Playing MP3 Music

Ubuntu mp3I’m a new user to Ubuntu, but I really want to try something new, different, from Windows and I’ve been downloading the various versions as they’ve been released to see the progression of the Operating System.

The progression of Ubuntu has been really good over the past few years and when DELL said they were going to start passing out Ubuntu with your PC’s and laptops, I thought that was great.

The thing is Ubuntu doesn’t seem to get any respect from software and hardware makers.

eMclient: How to Setup Hotmail POP Access

eMclient v2 was released a little while back and how to eMclient Hotmail popI’ve been having some issues with eMclient on their Hotmail access and after a little while of tinkering I got it working.

It’s not without a few issues, but since the account wizard doesn’t handle this completely yet, I thought I’d share a small piece of information.

Here’s what I did to get it working…

Roll Your Laptop To Be A Backpack

d roll

Forward thinking is what’s going to make it for us. Sticking to the sam ole rut of making technology is just not going to cut it.

Some of the most useful things like the light bulb, were made our of necessity and discontent.

This is a prime example of how technology could be working for us. You’ll notice the flexible roll-out screen and the flexible pull-out key board. The unit itself is an example of how to be functional and to maximize space.

Dual Boot: Windows Vista and Windows 7

image If you are dual booting Windows Vista and Windows 7, you’d have noticed that once you install Windows 7 beta, you would have noticed that Windows 7 is now your default operating system.

Right now Windows 7 is still in beta, so utilizing it as a default operating system is probably not your best choice; you want to test it, but it’s not your default operating system.

If you were lucky enough to download Windows 7 beta and install it, but you’re not experienced enough to change the boot sequence on your PC, you’ll benefit from this information.

How to: Install Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 on Windows 7 64-bit

Nuance has officially announced that they will now support Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 on on a 64-bit operating system, but I have successfully installed Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 on Windows this to 64-bit and Windows 7 64-bit.

Installation process for this versus Windows 7 for Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 is virtually identical.

There’s nothing dangerous about this process.

The installation files from Dragon NaturallySpeaking are copied to the local hard drive, the installation MSI file is modified to root remove the launch conditions that prohibit installation onto a 64-bit operating system.

The rest of the installation is pretty much stock from Nuance.

ISO Backups = Happiness…

The process of getting new devices and toys to play with on your computer are always so fun. You get a neat little device with a driver disc; you load the driver disc, install the drivers and then plug in your new toy and wha-la!

But alas, what’s to become of your driver disc? I mean the device is loaded, what do you do with the disc? Will you need it again? Probably. Will you be able to find it? Probably not. Or can you find it and it was used a dogs chew toy because you didn’t put it back in it’s case and take care of it…

I offer this little snippet of potential future joy. Read more…

CREATIVE: An Insult to Customer Service

image Once in a while you run across exceptional service and support from various software or hardware providers and for a moment your faith in corporate tech support is exonerated, but this is not one of those tails. This is a story of complete and utter failure; an example of the inability to read, absence of an a positive IQ and a barrage of unrelated canned responses will get you.

Allow me to set the stage, I purchased a $90 webcam from CREATIVE in Nov 2008. It was a CREATIVE LIVE CAM PRO Aptia. It’s a high resolution webcam, autofocus, face tracking, animation add-ons and more; supposedly. The reason I purchased the webcam was because I have a 64-bit system I had just purchased and all the normal webcams weren’t working; I had already tried 3 prior and I wanted a good one. And life is full of bad choices aren’t they..

If you’re brave enough to keep reading, this is really funny. This is a support thread of case KMM18331722I15977L0KM from the support staff at CREATIVE.

So thank you for reading and I’m sorry I had to post this as a news article…
