Twitter LISTS: Good Idea… And Deserves The Title BETA

Twitter wrongWho knows where Twitter is going; I don’t, but it has lacked organization for a while now. No filtering, not easy block people, not easy to report abusers and now they’ve released a ‘LIST’.

Twitter Lists, it’s a good idea, but so far bad execution. I follow a bunch of people [a bunch for me] and there’s no way to weed the ‘important’ to the ‘not so important’.

Thinking about it a little bit more…

Ubuntu 9.10 Is Great… But WTF is with Adobe?

ubuntu adobe just workI’m not messing with an Operating System that’s got such an issue with getting a browser to work. Ubuntu us a great Operating System, but damn, it’s not supported enough.

I give props to all the people that are really pushing it and I’d love to step away from Microsoft Windows, but the fact is that Windows is supported in one form or another, this version or that and has greater support for a myriad of hardware.

My example, Ubuntu is making great strides and infiltrating portable Internet devices, but it’s almost like it’s too specific. People can’t deal with it’s complexities, nuances and command line requirements; the average user is not jumping through hoops to install FLASH. They want to click and install it…

If it’s not one, it’s the other… ISP’s Stifling Innovation

ISP sux  It’s so hard to start with this post. I really don’t know where to go with this and yet it so bluntly apparent what the ISP’s are doing. And when I see these news articles and events it just starts crushing my dreams of a Star Trek world.

When I talk to friends and co-workers about this, they agree and it’s like a slow crashing plane. ISP’s are slowly tearing the fabric of the Internet apart with this is extra, that is extra and that’s not broadband and this is acceptable use. It makes me want to scream.

Look the genie is out of the bottle, you can’t put it back. The Internet is out there, it’s living breathing and growing everyday; AND it’s evolving faster than anyone could have possibly thought of and the old days of corporate control is out the window.

You might as well try to turn off the radio and say there’s never been music before, but now we’re going to define music for you.

Paying for online NEWS content… who will?

Pay for news online I recently posted a story about how the newspapers are dying because of online resources producing basically the same content. And within just a few days of that Rupert Murdoch announces that he’s going to charge for access or the content on online news resources.

Did he not read my article? Probably not.

Blogging is viral. Anyone with a PC or a smart phone with Internet access can be a reporter. Even if the information that’s reported will be debunked as soon as others research it. The think we take for granted is that the news and newspapers are supposed to be credible; but they have credibility issues as well- so what’s the difference.

Websites, Forums and Rules…and Zero Tolerance

image A few weeks ago I had signed up for an account at Ars Technica because some of the articles that they post are really interesting and in order to comment on some of the stories you have to sign up for an account on the website; this is actually pretty standard with a lot of websites.

What’s interesting about this article is that within three days of signing up for my account, I was banned from this website for spamming. I’ve been surfing the Internet since early 93’ 94’, and even before that when there was Prodigy and CompuServe [back when the best thing they had was an online encyclopedia and newsgroups], and I’ve never been banned from anything [except Google AdSense].

Firefox seems to be playing the game of follow what’s popular…

image Mozilla has a odd choice, but not really- I don’t know. A new version of Firefox was just released a few weeks ago and it’s got some great stuff going on, but with this mockup release… It’s like follow the leader.

When Microsoft noticed that everyone was finding more attraction to the MAC Operating System, they changed up the GUI. When Microsoft finds a person doing better than they are they copy or assimilate the technology.

Seems Google is the only one that’s coming up with unique ideas. Google has released Chrome, Android and now they are promising the Chrome Operating System.
