Smartphone Difference, But Actually The Same

Smartphones; there’s basically 3-4 competing operating systems for the Smartphone, and what’s fascinating about it’s the fact that developers are having to write the same code over and over just to put it on each phone.

It’s the PC world all over again, but now in the world of Smartphones.

People are making comparisons on which Smartphone operating system is the best, which one is better, but the fact is- it doesn’t matter everyone is using the same applications.

The applications are the thing that are making the phones attractive in the first place. The applications are in the position to make or break the success of the Smartphone.

Privacy Concerns: Social Websites Geo-location Tracking

Social networkingI don’t know that there’s anything more concerning to me than what Facebook, Twitter and Google Buzz.

It’s not enough that people are out there in the world, on the Internet, sharing information and conversing with their Internet buddies, but do they need to know where you are, when your doing it?

But wait, all this information is going through a server somewhere; it’s being stored and tracked and used for digital profiling- it has to be… What corporation in their right mind would pass up the chance to reference that kind of data?

Zoundry Raven Has What Windows Live Writer Needs

image

Since I downloaded the Windows Live Writer beta, I

have been in almost complete disgust with the lack of attention it received in the 18+ month vacation from development.

While I think Windows Live Writer is the best offline blogging application on the Internet, it seems to be missing it’s market; it’s missing that die hard blogger spirit that sparked the development of the application in the first place.

It’s almost like the people who write Windows Live Writer don’t understand what they’re doing, or don’t care, or don’t understand the drive, inspiration and needs of the bloggers anymore…

LEHSYS Download Watch – 07/26/2010

These are some items that I notice, like to keep an eye on and also to notate any new programs/software that could be useful.

I offer this as some links you should be curious about and if they can help you.

Some of the items I’ve this time are SlimBrowser for a nice skim/interface to Internet Explorer [if you must use it], FileZilla an excellent FTP server application, Video application for just about all your video playing needs and ThinVNC; a completely web-based remote desktop application.

Adobe Flash Deserves To Be Fragged

imageAdobe has been on my crap list for a while. Adobe Flash is unbearably slow, it drags my performance of my PC down to crawl. I ensure my PC is updated on a regular basis and I apply the patches when they release them, but all it ever seems to do is get worse.

I’ve a plug-in for Firefox that monitors web pages for changes; one of those pages is Adobe Flash 64-bit. I’ve my page updater tell me when certain pages gets updates. The other day I got a notice that the page had been updated- I very excited; did something happen?

No. Yes- kinda.

Google Chrome’s Fast Version Numbers

imageIt’s been a fascinating ascension for the version control of Google’s Chrome. It was only two years ago [basically] that Google released their own browser.

So, basically in two years Chrome has gone from beta to v6. That’s actually pretty impressive in the world of program development and version control. If you look at Firefox or Internet Explorer these browsers are putting along in regards to versions. Firefox isn’t even version 4 yet and Internet Explorer is working on the release of version 9.

Why the race for Google to climb so fast?

What’s the importance?

iPad Security Breach: AT&T Is In The Wrong

3ycwxdjtThe new iPad is already on the market and taking in security punches. AT&T is incorrect to go after the security consulting company that exposed the security flaw in the new iPad. Security consulting companies, that’s what they do find and exploit security flaws, report those problems and then publish their findings. For AT&T to go after them for finding the hole is the incorrect way to handle this.

Microsoft has been battling security flaws for years. ‘Hackers’ have been reporting holes in the Operating System for a long time and they’re very aware of the issue with reporting security problems, but you can’t go after every person or entity with lawyers; you need to be thanking them For pointing those issues out and then getting them fixed as soon as possible.

AT&T has no right not to advise their customers as soon as possible about the security flaw with the iPad. The consulting company waited days to wait for a reaction. When there was nothing, they chose to move forward. In the world of security, someone needs to take credit for finding and exposing the bugs. And in this case, this is a sizable shot in the arm for the consulting company.
