Digg used to be the place to go to get your fill on social news, but lately, in conjunction with the release of Digg v4, it’s been down more often than a $5 hooker.

In the rings of social news, in the previous version Digg was tolerable, old, but tolerable. Now Digg is supposed to be new and improved and have more appeal- it doesn’t.

There’s been reports of corruption and rigging at Digg for a long time. They said with the latest release all that was going to change…

In the world of Smartphones I really love to see the redundancy in applications. Smartphones; there’s basically 3-4 competing operating systems for the Smartphone, and what’s fascinating about it’s the fact that developers are having to write the same code over and over just to put it on each phone.

It’s the PC world all over again, but now in the world of Smartphones.

People are making comparisons on which Smartphone operating system is the best, which one is better, but the fact is- it doesn’t matter everyone is using the same applications.

The applications are the thing that are making the phones attractive in the first place. The applications are in the position to make or break the success of the Smartphone.

From the time that Windows Live Writer was released, in December of 2008, there’s been a consistent request that Windows Live Writer be a portable application so that you can use it on just about any USB device.

The request was made over and over to the Windows Live Writer development team, but 20 months after the release of Windows Live Writer diehard bloggers still not have been provided with an answer to their requests.

Instead an independent person decided to create a workaround that would allow Windows Live Writer to be placed onto a USB drive/jumpdrive; essentially making it portable. The workaround solution launches Windows Live Writer in a encapsulated environment, it captures the registry, data directories in various other settings that would normally be written to the local PC, captures that and stores it locally on the USB drive.

It’s not enough that people are out there in the world, on the Internet, sharing information and conversing with their Internet buddies, but do they need to know where you are, when your doing it?

But wait, all this information is going through a server somewhere; it’s being stored and tracked and used for digital profiling- it has to be… What corporation in their right mind would pass up the chance to reference that kind of data?

Another release of Windows Live Writer has come out and the Windows Live Writer development team has made only small changes thus far.

I’d speculate that Windows Live Writer is going to be in beta for a while longer… The startup/splash screen for Windows Live Writer now says ‘Windows Live Writer 2011’; and that’s fascinating news.

If that’s the case, we’re looking at a full blown/official release of Windows Live Writer around last quarter [late] of 2010; that’s right at 2 years between releases… Initial release was December of 2008. That’s not a very ambitious release schedule.

So what are we noticing with the latest Beta release?

And what things are we still waiting for?

If you’re keeping track of the technology trends in the market you’ll notice that Google’s Android is really making a name for itself and establishing itself as the dominant operating system.  The development and saturation of the operating system have been impressive to say the least.

It’s a weird feeling to be in a situation where the windows operating system has been such a dominant position for so long, it’s hard to imagine another operating system coming out of nowhere within just a past couple of years and placing Microsoft on its heels in a category from which Microsoft should be dominating.

It’s a strange vibe…

Nuance has just released their latest version of their PDF converter Enterprise. Nuance is most popular for it’s voice recognition [Dragon NaturallySpeaking] and imaging software, such as [Omnipage/PaperPort]. They recently released a free version of their PDF viewer that’s available for anyone to download and use for everyday tasks.

But now Nuance is really putting their foot in the door on handling and generating PDFs. PDFs are pretty much the standard for swapping documents, or storing information, and it’s also Adobe Acrobat’s native ground.

With the offering that Nuance is making with their PDF converter it shows that they’re really trying to push Adobe off their pedestal, and to show them how it’s done…
