Ubuntu 9.10 Adobe Flash – It’s a CPU Hog

mnthkbviAt this point, of all the things I’ve to deal with like programs, software and technical issues, I REALLY dislike Adobe FLASH right now.

I’ve a Dell laptop that I dual boot Ubuntu and Windows XP and I’ve found out that the Ubuntu/Linux Version of Adobe Flash is a resource hog and it consistently crashes my laptop from overheating.

Anytime I visit a site with FLASH on Ubuntu 9.10 I get these huge spikes in CPU usage and it turns the site in to just crap; nothing works or responds.

Google Joins Competitive ISP Arena

qzgxxzcwIn what seems to be a reaction to some data that was presented a few weeks ago, I think that Google has tired of dealing with the ISP’s of the U.S. and have decided to challenge them by going head-to-head, creating their own ISP.

Google continues to push forward with their aggressive position and option of what they think the Internet should be and what it should offer.

The push of Google in to this arena shows that it can be done and that the other ISP’s are just ISP HOG’s.

Adobe Flash Player Continues to Ignore 64-bit users

Adobe don't give a

It was almost a year ago that I was reporting on the 64-bit browser for Mozilla Thunderbird and the absence of a 64-bit flash player from Adobe. Even in October, there were still no updates from Adobe.

It’s been almost a year and there’s been no new, no progress and no updates from Adobe as to when or if users will see a 64-bit version of flash.

Shouldn’t there be more outrage over this?

Organizing Music on Ubuntu – Amarok

Amarok[5]When I loaded Ubuntu a month ago, it was mostly painless. The thing you need to understand, it’s not Windows and while Windows has many applications to do what’s considered a common place function, like playing music, doing things in Ubuntu are a bit different.

But once I was able to get Ubuntu where I wanted it, I need a music player…

Enter Amarok…

Impressions: Working with Ubuntu 9.10

Ubuntu you 910I loaded the latest version of Ubuntu the other day to my DELL M60 laptop; it’s about 5 years old and it was really struggling with life as a laptop with Windows. I had issues with power, issues with hibernation and issues with staying connected with my wireless router.

I was incurring all these problems and I figured, what the hell, what do I’ve to lose? If I screw it completely up, I’ll just reload Windows and go back to shoveling muck around; just like I was doing before.

Ubuntu 9.10 – Playing MP3 Music

Ubuntu mp3I’m a new user to Ubuntu, but I really want to try something new, different, from Windows and I’ve been downloading the various versions as they’ve been released to see the progression of the Operating System.

The progression of Ubuntu has been really good over the past few years and when DELL said they were going to start passing out Ubuntu with your PC’s and laptops, I thought that was great.

The thing is Ubuntu doesn’t seem to get any respect from software and hardware makers.

If it’s not one, it’s the other… ISP’s Stifling Innovation

ISP sux  It’s so hard to start with this post. I really don’t know where to go with this and yet it so bluntly apparent what the ISP’s are doing. And when I see these news articles and events it just starts crushing my dreams of a Star Trek world.

When I talk to friends and co-workers about this, they agree and it’s like a slow crashing plane. ISP’s are slowly tearing the fabric of the Internet apart with this is extra, that is extra and that’s not broadband and this is acceptable use. It makes me want to scream.

Look the genie is out of the bottle, you can’t put it back. The Internet is out there, it’s living breathing and growing everyday; AND it’s evolving faster than anyone could have possibly thought of and the old days of corporate control is out the window.

You might as well try to turn off the radio and say there’s never been music before, but now we’re going to define music for you.

Blurring the lines: TV’s with Network Connections

image I’ve been seeing more and more about these devices that connect the Internet to your TV [directly]. The network connection [RJ45]  will plug directly in to your TV [newer LED/OLED] and will allow you to surf the web and watch video, listen to music and so on.

It’s becoming obvious very fast [that’s how technology works] that networks like ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX [and so on…] are not going to be so dominate in the future.
