  • The Windows 8 Consumer Preview has given all of us a much clearer picture of what Microsoft has in store for its next-generation operating system. This time around, it truly is “next-generation;” in fact, it’s the biggest change since DOS grew a GUI. Already, the spectrum of responses have ranged from gushing love to seething hatred — with plenty of room for gray-area confusion in the middle. Let’s take a quick look at five of the biggest reasons why Windows 8 is (or will be) a success, followed by another five indications that Redmond has made a terrible mistake. And keep in mind we’ve still got at least half a year before the finished product.

  • Leave it to Google to keep changing how they integrate services… the Android Market  is being changed over to Google Play. As everyone knows, the android market had evolved to include electronic books, music, videos, but the android market has really become something much more for Google and the Android platform. Now they’re pushing the boundaries even further, adopting some of the same features and functions that were touted with the Kindle Fire, and the mixing that with some of what Apple is doing with the iCloud. Over the past couple of months, is below changes with Google, with their services, with their privacy settings, and with their new initiative to have cloud storage; this is a result of that effort. Movies that you watch, songs that you purchase and books that you read with the Android operating system will now be synchronized in the cloud.

  • This holiday season advertisers are pushing everything and nothing seems to be more popular than tech and gadget items. And what’s absent from a lot of advertisements [from what I've observed] is the iPad. The iPad has been the staple standard for tablet PC’s for an over extended period of time, everything is compared to the iPad; it IS the de facto standard by which every tablet PC is measured. It’s always the same thing, here’s the new tablet PC; and here’s the same thing compared to the iPad. It’s a silly game… The Android market and the iOS market have thousands of games and applications; and evenly matched developers are as well. So the game isn’t what does the iPad have vs. the other; we’re talking specifications and hardware levels now. And if you are talking that, you are talking ‘losing side’ for the iPad.

Crushing IPad- That’s what the Android operating system is doing.

  • Have you ever visited Google’s shopping website? with the new interface it has? It’s really nice. And as everyone gets ready to charge the stores for Black Friday’s shopping specials, it’s nice to have fall back options… My wife is really big in to shopping, as most women are, but for them it’s an art, a competetion. It’s not just to shop but to be able to take home that one thing and say, “I only spent X dollars on this…” — I like to take a different approach; cause I’m mostly in to tech, toys and gadgets— I like to do more research. So, here’s my example, I recently purchased a Logitech G510 illuminated keyboard. My wife convienently broke the last one by forcefully removing the space bar [thanks honey] after my son had spilled some ‘drink’ on it. Understandably, it was good intentions, but… So I went in search of a new keyboard. And I thought I found a good one. I found a local business that had one and I went to go try it out— you know, hands on…

  • I think it’s pretty obvious that tablet PCs are the ‘IT’ toy right now. The idea of having a small device that could have access to your e-mail, Internet and be able to do an abundance of other things is very attractive; not to mention the ability to touch the screen and have things happen. I think that’s the most novel thing that the tablet PCs bring to the public interest, and I think this is one of the biggest reasons why people purchase tablet PCs in the first place… And while tablet PCs have an abundance of functions and they can do lots of things, and they’re evolving every day, but the sad fact is that tablet PCs spark more curiosity than they provide practicality. In people’s minds, it’s cool to have this little thin device that has access to Internet and can browse the web and can play a few video games, but tablet PCs are not for everyone, and they’re not for everyday use; their purpose in life is to bridge the gap between carrying around a laptop and having a bigger screen than your smartphone… I’m not saying that tablet PCs are worthless, because they can...

  • I’m not going to draw this out. 3D TV loses on this battle field. If you want to stop reading here, you can; but the simple fact is Internet TV can offer more to customers than 3D ever could. 3D to a standard TV is my comparison to a light bulb with glitter; it’s a light bulb it works, it creates light— the glitter makes it just a bit fancier while it does it. But Internet TV is what’s going to drive NEW TV sales. They’re going to drive TV sales through the roof… And sites like YouTube and Pandora and Hulu— they all know this. It’s not so hard to figure out… Flipping your TV over to The Daily Show or pushing a button and getting YOUR weather right then, or having a TV guide know what you like to watch; offering you like TV shows when there’s nothing on— that’s going to be something. The innovative ideas behind Google TV and Google voice recognition is going to be the icing on the cake. Taking in to account for 1 second; how nice would it be to grab the TV remote, press a button and say ‘MASH’ and then...

  • I was reading through the article the other day about how Comcast had had a spike in consumer subscriptions into Internet broadband services. The fact that Comcast is having a spike in Internet subscriptions doesn’t surprise me one bit, actually I would expect to have more subscriptions, but what may be keeping consumers from adding high-speed Internet service to their homes would be the cost.. It’s no secret that Comcast’s network simply cannot revive the throughput, transfer rate, that they advertise. One of the biggest fallacies about the advertising for Internet service from services like Comcast is the fact that, while the network may be able to provide a short burst of high-speed Internet service for a specific function it has to be understood that the information can only be received at the same speed, or slightly lesser speed, then from where the information is originating from…

  • This review of the Motorola Xoom isn’t a comparison of the iPad; it’s simply a statement of what it is and how well I believe it performs… The release of the Motorola Xoom has come and gone, and while the commercials depicting the awesomeness of the tablet, the question has to be does it work and it’s it practical? My overall opinion of the tablet is that it’s good. The portability, the weight, the display and the responsiveness of the device is very good. And from what I have said before, it’s not so much the device, but the application that are going to make or break it in the public’s eye. Here’s some things that I have noticed about the tablet and something I though other might find interesting about the Xoom tablet.

  • I recently ventured in make an attempt out the Nook Color. The overall presentation of the Nook Color was nice and it had some good points to it. The overall goal was to purchase an ebook reader for my wife, but she had just about as much hands on as I did. While she was working on the ‘just use it’ side of the house; I was working on the ‘what does it do’ side… She was happy with the performance of the Nook Color, it was great for reading her magazines and also with the built-in browser you cold browse the web for most sites. I never had an issue with it’s looks or performance.

They have taken the TRON legacy, the built-in fan base and breathed NEW life in to the TRON franchise with a new upcoming series called TRON: Uprising. And this is exactly what I was discussing before. Between the 1982 movie and the release in 2010, there’s SO MUCH ground to cover and so many stories that can be created; this should be fascinating.

  • I was checking out the WebGL abilities today in Chrome, Opera and in Firefox. I was really impressed. It seems like such a leap from the rigid world of webpages we live in nowadays. To think that the capabilities of WebGL could be integrated with a standard webpage to provide a much more rich experience than what we see now. WebGL is still emerging as a NEW standard in web media, but any browser worth mentioning is already working on this standard. ICONICLY [yes, I said that correctly] Internet Explorer doesn’t support WebGL graphics. I don’t understand why Microsoft even bothers with that browser anymore. So, in my testing, I decided to do a quick video to show those who would rather not load a new browser, just to see this feat of cool.

  • This would be some staggering information if it wasn’t so predictable. Devices like the iPad, Samsung galaxy and the new Motorola Xoom are demonstrating, fairly clearly, that you don’t need a specific operating system to get on the Internet and to get things done. The technology trends dictate that customers looking for just a few things, and if you can provide those few services you can have a device it’s going to be guaranteed to sell. I think the credit goes clearly to Apple for producing the iPad first. And this goes back to getting Apple credit to starting a revolution in smartphones and with tablet PCs, but this doesn’t mean Apple is doing the best job. Tablets in smartphones are being loaded with android-based operating systems, with applications and Web services directly from the Internet; establishing a dominant pattern that a desktop PC is not required.

  • There’s a big who-ha about copying DVD and Blu-Ray discs. Hell, there’s been a big deal about copying VHS, cassettes, records, radio and all the other media type that have come before DVD and Blu-Ray; but that didn’t stop it from happening… I believe it’s obvious that the future of renting movies is going to be streaming the movies from a video rental service. When you rent a movie, it’ll come from Netflix, RedBox or Amazon; or if Blockbuster is still around— maybe them too [but doubt it]. It’s also obvious to a large mass of people on the web and just about anyone that has a computer, a piece of media; if someone can get their hands on a piece of media, it can be copied by a computer. In some form fashion or way, it will be copied. But if there’s streaming video, how’s that going to work?
