Finding An Alternative To Paperport 12

k3dihubhI couple of weeks ago, I did a review on the latest version of Paperport v12 Professional. I was reviewing the product as anyone would if they were looking to apply it in the corporate environment or at home; what did it do? How did it do it and was it easy enough to use.

During the process of reviewing and dissecting the program, going through it’s various functions, I thought about all the programs I’ve ever used and does what Paperport does… With everything that Paperport does, could it be replaced it something else- an alternative?

The answer is YES.

Ubuntu 9.10 Adobe Flash – It’s a CPU Hog

mnthkbviAt this point, of all the things I’ve to deal with like programs, software and technical issues, I REALLY dislike Adobe FLASH right now.

I’ve a Dell laptop that I dual boot Ubuntu and Windows XP and I’ve found out that the Ubuntu/Linux Version of Adobe Flash is a resource hog and it consistently crashes my laptop from overheating.

Anytime I visit a site with FLASH on Ubuntu 9.10 I get these huge spikes in CPU usage and it turns the site in to just crap; nothing works or responds.

Review: Nuance’s FREE PDF Reader

r3latl4vFrom my standpoint, Nuance would be the last company I would see that would be offering a free product to the public, even more so a FREE PDF reader, but they have; they’ve come out with their own PDF viewer for FREE.

The installation file is 18mb. It’s a MSI file, just double-click the file to run it. The PDF reader from Adobe is much larger than this; Adobe Reader is complete BLOAT-ware.

Nuance has shown up to put Adobe in it’s place and beat Adobe at their own game. It’s nice to know someone else is doing it besides Steve Jobs.

Google Calendars New Features – More Organized.

1vl3wlmbIf you haven’t noticed or test the new features ‘beta’ from Google calendar; your missing out. It’s pretty slick…

What your able to do with a browser is becoming increasingly blurred with your standard applications. Google is proving a concept that all applications can be web based.

Here’s some new stuff…

Hootsuite has a Hiccup

u2jtodckToday, I thought it was a slight inconvenience having Hootsuite down today because I might actually have to visit those sites I never go to, but yet am so actively involved with…

Hootsuite handles all my social communications and I was surprised to find an error on my beloved social hub website.

While this is not a major disruption it was a point of humor.

The Arrival of Internet Based Television

iptv

This article is based on my complete disgust for the way TV programming works right now.

For the last twenty years, the Internet has been moving and growing; it’s morphed so many times and now it’s almost like it’s omnipresent. It’s an expected service of just about every device you’ve and it’s not the most used information outlet; Television is still the most viewed/used.

It’s unquestionable that the picture quality of TV has gotten better, but the same basic programming, how that content is presented to us, hasn’t changed.

Your still provided with a ‘guide’. Whether it was a TV guide or an electronic guide of what was on. It’s current state is horrible…

Review: Avatar – Changing Movies Forever

avatar movie poster

This is my review for Avatar; I was on vacation when I saw it and I really wanted to share this.

From the days of rendering Stop Motion to Green Screen special effects; Avatar has been the result of that pursuit. Avatar is without question is the most graphically and visually stunning movie ever made [thus far].

The argument of the quality of the movie can’t be argued… and if you haven’t seen the movie, I’m and not going to give away any details.

GIMP is Being Removed from Ubuntu – Effective v10.04

F-spot screenshotGIMP is a powerful image editing package for Ubuntu/Linux, but the problem is that GIMP is also an image edit package that’s really meant for a higher edge user. Ubuntu is a distribution that likes to say that it’s easy to use. And in a group of simple programs, GIMP stands out like a sore thumb.

So effective the next version of Ubuntu, GIMP is not going to be included. It’s going to be replaced with a smaller, lighter, easy to use and user friendly picture organizer.
