  • In many cases of the futuristic fiction genre (especially Sci-Fi), we hear stories where an advanced technology has evolved or has been created, and said technology plays a huge catalyst to the plot or memorable scene in the film. An example of this would be in the 80s and 90s, when we had the internet and super computers making us speculate what technology was around the corner. With it came many films where breaking technology played a huge part to tie in with topical trends and the market. Examples would be films like 2001: A Space Oddessy where a super computer called HAL 9000 evolves to consciousness and goes on a mission to wipe out anyone who tries to shut it down, Jonny Mnemonic where Keanu Reeves plays a man with a large percentage of his brain replaced with computer memory, and The Matrix in which it turned out that all of reality as we know it was actually a computer generated simulation.

  • As with many other people, I went out this weekend to grab a movie and dinner. I chose to go to the new This Means War movie. It had a few people in it that normally make a good movie; Reese Witherspoon and Chris Pine— there was another actor I’m not so familiar with, Tom Hardy, but I recently saw him in another movie, Warrior that wasn’t that bad— but this cast of characters brought the movie together for me.Throughout the movie there’s point that are obvious to come, but still this movie is all about getting there… The movie is 90+ minutes and it’s rated PG13.

Movie review: This Means War [just great.]

  • When you have young children, you know; you just have to accept that there’s going to be things that you don’t want to do and there’s going to be movies that you don’t want to see. Because my son is only six years old he’s attracted to all the traditional kid shows and movies that are coming out, and even though I have the ability to determine if movies are going to be good or not, I still have to bite the bullet for the sake of my son and go see certain kid movies. Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is one of those movies that you can tell from the advertisements and the trailers that it was going to be just one of those ‘cheesy’ kids movies, but I didn’t really think it would be worse than the first one; I was wrong. It’s a PG movie [standard and 3D] and a solid 98 minutes of boredom I will never get back…

Review: Journey 2: The Mysterious Island [Nope.]

  • The popularity of the gaming console, and the profitability of it, have just been astounding. A couple of years ago, you could have hopped on the Internet and read article after article about how PC gaming was dead and how the gaming console was going to be the future of gaming. I would’ve been one of those individuals that you would have to call crazy because I thought PC gaming was still doing very well. And I also would’ve argued the benefits over using a gaming console versus the PC. Video games in general have been extremely popular and very profitable. With everything with the economy doing so bad, and everyone talking about a recession, the gaming industry seems to have had record profits during this time, but PC games sales were still there. Some of the most profitable games stemmed from the PC gaming audience. And their benefits to the PC gaming world; take for instance Battlefield 3… the gameplay for Battlefield 3 is simply incredible, with full HDMI output and able to have 64 players, real players, per game. And some of the PC games simply outperform the gaming consoles when it comes to graphics and the physics...

PC Games Show Resurgence in Sales; Consoles not so much

  • Google is one of those wonderful tools that if you ask it a question it tries to predict the question; ones that people have posed thousands of times before. So, I went to ask Google; ‘SOPA is…’ And all these are correct… except ‘passed’. This just goes to show how hard Google is working for the average user. It’s good, bad, unconstitutional, going, to pass, evil, obtuse, dead, and retarded.

  • For the most part, I’m not condoning their actions, but I’m starting to understand some of their methods and reasoning… I have reflections back to when DVD’s first came on to the market; replacing VHS. There was this massive marketing effort, just as there’s now about getting customers to go from DVD to Blu-Ray. And to this point they still have not convinced me to replace my entire DVD collection; just to upgrade to Blu-Ray. And my prediction is that there’s not going to be any disc’s after Blu-Ray; it’s going to be streaming video over the Internet. I say this because that’s the world of technology, it changes so fast and obviously, it’s cheaper than shipping DVD and Blu-Ray discs all over the place, and less people to employ. But pirates have been a driving voice on how people get and consume media. And videos/movies are just one. Movies have been downloaded since someone figured out how to rip a DVD. From there, you had Netflix and iTunes and all the other ‘streaming’ services.

Rant: DVD and Blu-Ray Pirates may have the right idea.

  • This is just a random review and video of an app that was listed in AppBrain for Android. From time to time I’ll drop in to AppBrain and see what the random top application of the day is, just to see what’s trending. For this post, I’ve got a application called Assaulter. It’s an 80′s style game with fast action and explosions. The game play is linear; it’s not FPS or anything and reminds me of the old games like Pitfall and Mario Brothers [just with lots of weapons]. You can get in to the game really quick and start playing— there’s very little delay there. I have created a video to show the installation and game play of the application.

  • I have a Xbox and just like everyone else, I fight to have the proper amount of space to play Xbox Kinect games in confined spaces; until now. I have a friend of mine purchase a Nyko Zoom and try it out on his Xbox Kinect system and he’s reporting back it works like a charm. Reducing the amount of space players need to play games with Xbox Kinect by 40%, and it also gives you more side-to-side space as well because it uses special lenses [wide angle]; allowing players more space next to them to really get in to those big hay makers— hopefully when your boxing the crap out of someone else. The application of the special lense doesn’t seem to affect the game play of the Xbox Kinect and leaves everyone asking another question; why didn’t Microsoft think about this before they released the Xbox Kinect?

  • This weekend I went to go see the Green Lantern movie and it’s something I wanted to do because I like Ryan Reynolds; he’s a outstanding actor and has a lot of potential to do some great action movies. But his calling from Hollywood is to be a box office love toy with comical romances. I’m not able to say that Green Lantern was about a super hero though. Hollywood took a great actor and a great back story and turned it in to another one of those love stories about how a young man is irresponsible, becomes aware of his faults and then has to face his demons. For all practical purposes, Reynolds could’ve been, for all the special CGI this movie has, placed in an rundown Office Depot and had basically the same result.
