If the Roku wasn’t interesting enough for you before, it should start looking interesting to you now. In addition to Roku releasing their Roku streaming stick, Roku has partnered with 3M to create a small projector that can stream video from whatever sources Roku can conjure.
The standard Roku unit is miniature anyways but the Roku streaming stick is roughly the size of a USB jump drive. 3M is producing the projector and the Roku streaming stick plugs into the back of it; but technically any device with an HDMI output can use the many projector, but since the Roku streaming stick utilizes the existing HDMI output port as a power source these two items marry up quite well.
All of the early information that I’ve looked at, the projector can create a viewing screen of 120 inches at a resolution of 800 x 480 at about 65 lm. The projector is portable and it has a lithium-ion battery that will last just under three hours; standard for most movies.
These two items are going to obviously complement each other very well. Having the ability to carry around a projector with all of your media and hundreds of channels to mess with is a definite bonus.
You can preorder the projector from Amazon right now for roughly $299 and if you preorder, you also get a $20 credit towards Amazon’s streaming video rental service. Delivery of the item would start around October 15th.
