Be Nice: Microsoft.com still doesn’t like Firefox

November 9th, 2009

Microsoft just meanI understand the concept of wanting to protect your product and self-preservation, but where’s the adherement to web standards? Why can’t you just understand there are standards and everything needs to work through a browser.

And because a person chooses to use a browser other than Internet Explorer they should not suffer a penalty.

For instance, when I was researching how to upgrade from XP to Windows 7 I found this website on how to do the upgrade. I was using Firefox to browse with [cause it’s the right thing to do] and yet when I tried to view the video it crashed [not the browser, the site]; it wouldn’t play the video.

Luckily for me, I’m using the Internet Explorer renderer in Firefox [so I can switch back and forth between rendering engines for issues just like this] and when I switched, low and behold it worked perfectly. So WTF?!

Why does Microsoft has do be such a prick about which browser your using…

When I visited this in Firefox:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/help/upgrading-from-windows-xp-to-windows-7

I received this:

Firefox Microsoft site

When I click the button about installing a plug-in, it says I need Media Player 11.

So I checked, I had installed MP11 before, and sure enough; it’s already installed.

Are you telling me that when I install MP11 that it doesn’t install the required interfaces for Firefox? So now your just e’ffn with us?

But when I switch to Internet Explorer, everything worked just fine. So WTF? So ‘why you wanna be like that’; be all mean and crap- that’s not nice at all.

So thanks Microsoft, for being so Internet neutral… it’s such a different stance than you normally take which is ‘I know everything and your doing it wrong’…

Thanks,
