Free Power, not from solar and not from wind turbines…

August 19th, 2009

image I really like the concept of free energy, getting off the grid and being more efficient in general.I found this video and I thought it was just so cool.

Most HOA [Home Owner Associations] have rules against wind turbines and/or solar panels because they make the other neighbors look stupid for not thinking of it first. But what if you could mount something to your house, perhaps in the top of the house, some thing that doesn’t spin in the wind and doesn’t weigh a ton…

Enter non-turbine wind alternative.

It’s absolutely incredible. The video shows a very crude example of how to make power from this device; it’s amazing.

Now I watch this and I think you could apply this to window screens, roof tops, attic vents, the grill of cars, tops of cars, outside in the grill area or places like work shops… the list goes on.

The examples are very simple, no bearings or blades that are spinning around; basically just a small thin belt flapping up and down in the wind with very little effort.

So take an electric car and put a few of these in the grill… charge the car as it’s moving or if it’s parked [in a open/windy] area. Or use it to power some LED lights in your house when/if the power goes out [something is better than nothing]. And even bigger applications!

Ceramatec says its new generation of battery would deliver a continuous flow of 5 kilowatts of electricity over four hours, with 3,650 daily discharge/recharge cycles over 10 years. With the batteries expected to sell in the neighborhood of $2,000, that translates to less than 3 cents per kilowatt hour over the battery’s life. Conventional power from the grid typically costs in the neighborhood of 8 cents per kilowatt hour.

There was a recent article published from Daily Herald about a battery that could change the world… and the idea is to collect energy when it’s cheaper, store it and recharge at night, but what if you could use this technology with that. Or if you mixed it with your solar shingles or window tint?

I think we are getting very close to where we need to be… these technologies are exciting!
