Bing vs Google – It’s about the quality, not quantity. |
The common Internet community has known that Microsoft LIVE search sucked hard; it couldn’t find water if it was under it.
Now that Yahoo! has been taken over by Microsoft, it’s like combining to search engine websites and only one lack luster search engine, but does this mean it’s going to be better or more widely accepted? I think not.
In my eyes, Microsoft is comical. They are advertising Bing on TV with these silly commercials with people that have apparently searched and found a bunch of information they don’t need. And with Bing you will. –No I don’t think so.
The public has spoken and the stripped down version of search is what people are looking for. Google has had a very stripped down search page for many years, but over the last couple of years Microsoft has been trying to take the search crown and that just isn’t going to happen because Google has truly defined what it is; it’s niche in the internet.
Here’s an example of a search for ‘George Bush is an Idiot’ [apparently a very common phrase]…
| Google has the right idea. Very stripped down, simple and straight forward. It’s a white page, enter your search terms and search- your on your way. | Bing is wrong from the beginning.
from the beginning, the eye is drawn to the pretty picture I the background. Microsoft is trying to gain your attention to the different parts in the picture; they are already trying to get you distracted and on to something your not interested in… that’s wrong. |
When the results are presented to you, your expecting answers, but where Bing is being advertised on TV and being pushed by Microsoft and Yahoo now; they still don’t have it right.
Google is giving you the preview of the videos [video matches], but not with Bing. Bing offers a textual type pop-up of response to this media which I think is the wrong approach. If your going to give results and you know it’s a video, pull it, preview it, give the option to watch it…Google already does this.
Another one of Bing’s ‘unique’ features is the ability to find restaurants, provide contacts and rating/reviews for those locations. Again, Google already does this.
example:
Both sites offer the map, directions, name and phone number, but again, Bing has a lack luster presentation. Bing does present similar results, but it doesn’t actually say it can offer reviews unless you click on the link for the location. Google is providing more information people are looking for right there on the page closest to you.
Google is the leading search engine by far; on my site alone it accounts for %60 of the incoming searches.
There’s no doubt the race to be the internet’s top search engine has some glamour associated with it, but Microsoft should really know by now you can’t just pull something out of a hat, slap their name on it and make it gold.
The bottom line is that for all the advertising Microsoft is doing, the bottom line is that people are going to use what works best. And my guess is that people using BING will be those who are searching the Microsoft knowledge base and those who [don’t know any better] changed their [or they allowed without direct disclosure] to have their default search engine changed in the browser.
Microsoft wants in the search game, but they are entering late and running with a bad horse.
Don’t take my word for it, try it your self.
