Firefox: Maximizing your Webpage Display |
The one thing that I think that current browsers are missing the ability to properly use the display of the webpage in the browser that your using. It can be hard to read sites at times…
A large majority of web pages/sites are constructed to handle 1024 or 1280 displays. The purpose for this is to make the reading or gleaming of information easier. If the letters/words are too small and the sentences are too long [on the site] it’s just hard to track when reading.
Cell phones are doing this natively with the built-in browsers, but for all the power, the PC’s have been omitted from this ability. Cell phones will zoom in on places when you gesture or click an area, but browsers for PC’s are missing the point [IMHO].
Having realized this about 2 years ago, I’ve been trying to find a browser that does this [built-in or with a plug-in]. Happily I can say that I found a plug-in for Firefox that’s making an effort to do this. It’s called ‘default zoom level’.
The benefit to using this plug-in is that when you load a webpage it examines the page for content and then adjusts the display to fit in the browser window.
Example
As you can see, the plug-in shrinks the page text and image automatically to maximize the display of the browser window; I find it a very nice start.
There are options for using it. You can adjust the text or full page.
The functions of the plug-in can be tweaked and each to his own, but I’m find this a better way to surf.
When the pages can be bigger, it’s easier to read, when the pages are too big it makes it to where I don’t have to scroll to much or resize the page and actually makes doing research, in some cases, faster.
This is now in my arsenal of default Firefox plug-ins; I encourage you to give it a try. I’ve high hopes functions like this will make it in to browsers by default. The way I see it, why strain to read small words when they don’t have to be or why view small images when they don’t have to be…
Have more fun surfing my friends.
Thanks for reading!
Enjoy.
