I’ve been reading all these articles and digesting all this information from the Internet and from TV and it’s really got my biscuit’a burn’n.

Here’s the thing- with every version of Windows it’s always the same hype and the same result- big talk and no walk; it was all falls and embarrassment. Anyone who’s spent more than 5 minutes in a IT shop knows [memorized] the installation screens of Win 95,98, ME and XP; they all say faster, better, more dependable and it was just the same garbage regurgitated over and over with no REAL jump in usability [XP was a nice step though]. There were no huge benefits.

Gizmodo posted a nice article, and while entertaining, it just got me going on all the things customers have been told in the past about the previous versions of Windows. With each version, customers have been promised these huge jumps on features and function that was supposed to revolutionize the world- it didn’t.

When Microsoft came out with [that god awful] Vista, it was pushed as the thing that ‘…makes you say wow’. The release of Vista was not the monumental release Microsoft wanted. They were being pressured to release a version of something; anything. It resulted in a super public relations nightmare and they had customers pissed who never thought they could be; getting emails left and right about how flawed this Operating System was. They pulled a George W. Bush and walked the line of everything is fine and ignored the press, the users and the [oh yeah] problems. Their thoughts were just keep pushing Vista- it’ll come around.

They’ve pushed and pushed for Vista to get XP out of the market. Hardware manufacturers are still downgrading system to XP because Vista can’t cut it; it’s not compatible with things that worked perfectly with XP [just like Windows ME]. Vista has turned in to the bastard child no one wants to even talk about. Even Bill Gates didn’t want to comment about the Vista release [I guess lies that big are hard to handle]. Seems as though Microsoft has conceeded that Vista was not where it should have been and is now looking on to [simplisticly/refreshingly called] Windows 7. They seem completely comfortable with telling customers to just skip Vista. So, where does that leave all the Vista users? In the same boat as all those ME users 8+ years ago; History repeats itself.

We can only hope they don’t turn the Operating System in to another ‘Eight is Enough’ sitcom with all those different versions. What in the heck were they thinking anyway?!

I have a new PC and it has Vista- and my take on Vista was that it’s crap. It’s a cumulative roll-up of patches and updates with a new GUI and an irritating UAC service; It’s handling of system resources is awful.

I honestly wish Microsoft the best of luck with the next version of Windows, not for them, but for all the people they pushed Vista on; just to make money. But for all that marketing and pushing a flawed Operating System, Windows 7 will over shadow Vista and hopefully standardize the industry once again; with any luck restoring their name from the red to the black side of the line.

With the emerging technologies of Instant on and Inet ready Netbooks, Microsoft is actually completing again for faster boot times, lower resources and intuitive/smarter interfaces with the user; where it should’ve been the whole time.

Undoubtedly, you’ll be forking out another $400 for the new Operating System. It’s coming and it’s going to be here as fast as those programmers can tap their little fingers. Microsoft is really hoping to get the new Operating System on the market by later 2009/early 2010. But if history holds true with them- they’ll release it when it ready.

Ready, set… [deep breath] – wait for it…
